1. Put Your Things Away

You may already turn your garage into a storage room and somehow put some unused things there. So, it is wise to sort some things, throw away the unused one, and put things away temporary. The key is to make your garage floor can be seen and reached easily so later you can clean it without moving many things in the process and you also don’t want to get your things ruined by water later.

You may not need to put away the things on your shelves or wall, but you may consider to clean them up before cleaning your floor. The reason is that the dust from above may make your floor dirty again, so you need to make sure that the ceiling and things above your floor are clean. Then, you can start to clean your floor.

The next one is you need to remove or cover any electrical outlets so you can clean your floor without worrying about the short circuit. You may also need to cover some parts of the lower wall if you don’t want the paint damaged by water later. You can tape some cheap plastic to cover them.

2. Sweep the Big Dirt Away

First thing first you need to sweep the big dirt away. You may find visible dust, spider web, or dry leaves in your garage and you need to remove them before you can do the next step.

Just sweep them using the broom you have at home or you can buy a broom just to sweep the garage floor. Therefore, you can leave the broom in your garage and frequently sweep the garage floor if needed.

3. Scrub the Dirt Away

Since we usually don’t clean garage floor regularly, you may need to scrub the floor after sweeping it. You need to scrub, not only to mop since you may get some stains on your garage floor and it won’t come off without scrubbing it. Not only that, usually the garage floor is concrete so scrubbing may be more effective to clean it.

You need warm to hot water and also cleaning agent like dishwasher detergent or you can also use a degreaser. Mix them well in a bucket, pour some of it to the floor, and start to scrub. You can use a deck brush so the floor will be clean and spotless. For some dirty spots, you may need to soak them with the soap solution first for about five to ten minutes before starting to scrub.

The thing you need to consider is that the soap solution should not be dry before you rinse the dry. The dry soap solution will damage your concrete floor pores and later will leave more stains. If it started to dry, the soap solution will be left on the floor when you rinse it. So, you need to quickly rinse the floor after scrubbing it.
